Digital education has revolutionised the way education happens in schools, homes, and anywhere else a person is involved in a learning circumstance. Learners have adapted over time to the evolving educational environment together with the technologies employed to assist both the educator as well as the teaching process. In this paper we present a series of research observations inferred from a year-long study at a higher education institution where a purposely developed learning environment was employed. The education portal, customized to the specific needs of the educator and the academic domain included online assessment, peer-reviewing, blended and mobile learning, analytics, and collaborative environments to mention a few. Results and recommendations will help evaluate the use of the virtual environment while providing ample space for future research and investigation.
